Well Configuration Page

The core of the program—define your drill string, casing scheme, hole size, depth, and pump strokes.


Get instant calculations for:

  • Pump pressure
  • String volume
  • Bottoms-up time
  • Open-hole annular volume


Additional features:

  • Graphical representation of system pressure losses (through drill string & annulus).
  • Fluid velocity plots for all string components and annuli.

Hydrostatic Pressure Evaluation (New in Version 13.0)

  • Simulate pumping a fluid train (up to 5 fluids with user-defined weight & volume).
  • Evaluate underbalance risks for up to four formations during the process.
  • Supports vertical and deviated/horizontal wells (uses active survey data).
  • Plots hydrostatic pressures and real-time fluid positions while pumping.
  • New in Version 14.2: Hookload estimation plot added.


Ton-Miles & Hookload Calculations

  • Calculates hookload and ton-miles for vertical, deviated, and horizontal wells.
  • Uses industry-standard formulas from:
    • IADC Drilling Manual
    • Green Drilling Data Handbook


Hydraulics Page

  • Automatically imports drill string & casing scheme data from Well Configuration.
  • Calculates pressure losses across the entire well system, including:
    • Drill string components
    • BHA components (mud motor, MWD, LWD, Rotary Steerable Systems, etc.)
    • Bit nozzles
    • Up to 50 annuli sections
  • Uses MI’s Drilling Fluids Manual for calculations.
  • Supports Directional Drilling Contractor formulas (currently one contractor coded).


Single String Cementation

  • Cement any string inside any previous casing and open hole size (as long as it's physically possible!)
  • Easy pull-down selection for casing strings, cementing contractor, and additives.
  • Customize and save your own cement chemicals & unit settings.


Balanced Cement Plug

  • Define cement stinger, running string, casing scheme, and cement additives via pull-down menus.
  • Enter key well data (plug length, top of plug, excess %, under-displacement, etc.)—the program does the rest.


Surveys Page

  • Store up to five surveys with 1,000 survey stations each.
  • Enter surveys, generate various plots, and interpolate data.
  • The Active Survey Listing is automatically used in:
    • Hole Cleaning module
    • Horizontal Kill Sheet
    • Horizontal Well Control Simulator

Hole Cleaning Evaluation (Experimental Feature)

  • Calculates slip velocity, cuttings transport ratio, and cuttings transport velocity.
  • Works for vertical, deviated, and horizontal wells using the Preston Moore Correlation.
  • Future updates will factor in ROP, porosity, and other parameters.

  • Automatically imports drill string & casing scheme from Well Configuration.
  • Displays all essential well data at a glance.


Kill SheetsVertical Kill Sheet

  • Designed for vertical well control, as taught in well control schools.
  • Enter kick data & shut-in pressures—program generates a kill sheet with step-down charts & graphs.
  • Print and bring to the rig floor (for guidance only!).


Horizontal Kill Sheet

  • Designed for horizontal well control (not typically covered in-depth in well control schools).
  • Uses survey data from Active Survey Listing.
  • Enter kick data, shut-in pressures, and kill mud weight—program generates a kill sheet.

Horizontal Well Control Simulator

  • Simulates circulating out a gas influx using Driller’s Method.
  • Works for vertical, deviated, and horizontal wells.
  • Based on constant bottom-hole pressure, with user-defined temperature profile.
  • Real-time calculations & plots for:
    • Influx position, height, and volume
    • Pit gain
    • Choke panel readings (DPP & CP)
    • Casing shoe pressure & fracture pressure
  • Print graphs & kill sheets for rig floor guidance (not a substitute for official well control procedures!)


Kick Tolerance (New in Version 14.2)

  • Calculates kick tolerance (in barrels) based on assumed kick intensity (ppg).
  • Uses current well configuration & LOT/FIT data.


Brine Calculations & Salt Tables

  • Calculate the exact amount of NaCl, CaCl₂, or KCl needed to mix a brine of specific weight.
  • Determine how to mix different brine densities to achieve a target weight.

This pop-up window shows various calculated data for each separate annulus section, for the given well Configuration:

  • Fluid velocity (ft/min)
  • Flow regime (Laminar/Turbulent)
  • Pressure loss (psi)
  • Length (ft)
  • Capacity (bbl/ft)
  • Slip velocity (for vertical holes)
  • Cuttings transport ratio & velocity (for vertical holes)


User-Defined Plots

  • Pump Pressure vs. Bit Depth (up to 5 curves for YP/PV)
  • Hookload vs. Bit Depth
  • ECD vs. Bit Depth
  • Hole Fill vs. Bit Depth (when tripping out)
